Airsoft Safety

What Is Airsoft?

Airsoft is a recreational sport in which participants use replica firearms that shoot 6mm plastic BBs. These replicas are often modeled after real-world weapons in appearance but are designed for safe and controlled gameplay.

Airsoft is played in organized fields, private games, or competitive events, and emphasizes teamwork, tactics, and honor-based rules. Unlike paintball, airsoft BBs leave no visible mark, and players are expected to call their own hits honestly.

Is Airsoft Safe?

When proper precautions are taken, airsoft is a very safe activity. Millions of players around the world enjoy airsoft as a hobby and sport with minimal incidents. Safety in airsoft depends largely on following field rules, using appropriate gear, and treating airsoft replicas with respect and caution.

Airsoft is also a popular tool for training, recreational fitness, and developing coordination and discipline. With standardized safety equipment and responsible conduct, the risk of injury is extremely low.

Basic Airsoft Safety Rules

  • Always wear approved eye protection: Use ANSI Z87.1+ rated or higher full-seal goggles at all times when in play areas. Mesh goggles are not recommended unless paired with secondary eye protection.
  • Only shoot when appropriate: Never fire at someone without consent in a play setting. Do not dry-fire in public, indoors, or near people or animals.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger: Until you're ready to fire, keep your finger outside the trigger guard.
  • Use barrel covers and safeties: Always engage your safety switch and use barrel plugs when not in active gameplay.
  • Do not modify your gun unsafely: Avoid removing safety features, overpowering your gun, or tampering with internals in a way that may cause damage or increase risk of harm.
  • Never brandish airsoft guns in public: Treat airsoft replicas as if they are real firearms. Always transport them in a case and never display them in public spaces.
  • Follow field and event rules: Each airsoft field may have its own FPS limits, engagement distances, and age requirements. Always respect those guidelines.
