About the Gun
Norway officially adopted John Browning’s Colt 1911 design in 1914 as the “11.25 m/m Automatisk Pistol M/1914,” produced under license by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. Production ran from the mid-1910s into the late 1940s, with low interwar output and small post-war assemblies from parts, for a total commonly cited at just under 33,000 pistols. The Norwegian M/1914 introduced a distinctive extended slide stop (necessitating a cut-out in the left grip) and carries the slide legend “11.25 m/m AUT. PISTOL M/1914.” During the German occupation (1940–45) it was designated Pistole 657(n); only the final 1945 batch—about 920 pistols—received the WaA84 Waffenamt acceptance mark.
